New Idea: ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE WATER OFFSETS Background: So my lovely stepson has nominated me for the ALS ice bucket challenge. After writing a satirical post about water waste and the ALS IBC (not to be confused with the wonderful root beer), I was confronted by the image of a very thirsty and confounded Haitian boy (thanks Uncle Jeffrey Farley) Why misuse perfectly good clean water? As you may know, Its impossible not to concede the point to thirsty Haitian children. So I thinks to myself... CARBON OFFSETS! They assuage the corporate psyche of carbon emitters, enabling them to produce gasses that may (if you ascribe to logic, reason, and science) or may not (of you are of the more ostrichian variety) contribute to climate change. So following that logic, when one uses perfectly clean water to raise awareness, one can offset that water use by also contributing to a charity that increases availability of potable water to less developed areas! BOOM! That Haitian boy would likely never have the chance to enjoy water that resides in Lakes Livingston, Houston, and Conroe... but that water can be offset by the water he CAN enjoy if a well is build allowing him access he never had before. So here it is... for the first time (I actually have no idea if someone else has ever thought of this because Im too busy [I just think I am] to google it); ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE WATER OFFSETS. So, very soon I will be participating in the ALS #icebucketchallenge, and donating (if my debit checking account allows) to the #ALSAssociation, but also donating to #LivingWaterInternational (a Houston-area NP that builds wells in less developed nations). #BOOM! #zerowaterfootprint #satirebutnotire #ideasthatsoundstupidbutmaynotstupidbutmaybestupid! #ineedhelpwithhashtags!
