New Majors: you should have all received this via e-mail, but if not, please look at the memo below (older majors are welcome to attend as well): Dear Philosophy Majors Welcome back! This memo is to call attention to the fact that all UNLV students are now required to take a Milestone Experience class as part of their UNLV General Education requirements. Each department has constructed its own Milestone Experience class of its majors. The Philosophy Department’s version is very distinctive. It consists of an extensive two hour orientation to the department and the profession seminar. This year’s orientation will be on FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 19 3-5 in BEH 105 In this orientation you will · Meet the faculty · Have the new general education requirements explained · Have the philosophy department’s requirements explained · Talk about uses for philosophy after school. · Talk about philosophy club and various other matters It should be an interesting, useful meeting. All new philosophy majors are now required to take this seminar once before graduating. (“New” here means all majors who are not currently seniors, but seniors are welcome to come to the meeting. if they wish.) This seminar will eventually be offered for credit. But if you take it now, we can credit you with meeting the Milestone Experience required without you having to pay for a credit. For assessment purposes a. you will be given a brief (non-graded,) critical thinking test b. Bring in a copy of your best philosophy paper so far (you don’t have your name on it).
