New York has two weeks to celebrate the gifts of Tony Award-winner Betty Buckley. From October 7th through the 11th, shell be performing seven shows at Joes Pub (425 Lafayette Street, NYC)--singing songs from her new CD, Ghostlight. Its the 17th album of her own that shes made. (She can also be heard on more than a dozen original Broadway cast albums, concept albums, and compilations--everything from Cats, 1776, and Edwin Drood, to Mathis on Broadway and Sondheim a Celebration at Carnegie Hall.) And next week (from October 13th-17th), she will be leading workshops for performers at T. Shreiber Studios. Shes a remarkable artist. Shes that real rarity--an actor equally convincing whether in straight dramatic roles or in musical-theater roles. She brings fierce concentration to the stage. And any Buckley stage, concert, or club appearance will have an impact. TV viewers will recall her recurring roles on Eight is Enough (102 episodes as Abby Bradford) and HBOs Oz (18 episodes as Suzanne Fitzgerald) and guest shots on many series (Law & Order: SVU, Monk, Pretty Little Liars, etc.) And shes enlivened assorted films, from Carrie to Wyatt Earp. Chances to hear her singing in the intimacy of a supper club like Joes Pub are not to be missed.
