New York, you rock so hard for so many reasons, and I forget at times that others who dont, or have never lived here can truly grasp this- The following are the things which Ive grown accustomed to over the past thirteen years which very few who live elsewhere can truly understand: -The best and most diverse food selection of any city in the country, if not the world, is here; not to mention, dont even try to eat pizza or bagels elsewhere once youve had a relatively constant dose -The most diverse and eclectic populous of any city anywhere inhabits these five boroughs. I consistently am able to share and intake insights with individuals who have lived lives vastly deviated from my own personal experience, and these conversations help grow your consciousness, empathy and understanding like nothing else can -I can get pretty much get anything I want, whenever I want, and delivered directly to my door, at that. Obviously this power should be used for benevolence, not malevolence, but just re-read the first part again, as it is wholly true -I am part of a true greater something which becomes a we. Any city, great or small, is a we, however no one in this country or world can argue that we New Yorkers are some of the most creative, resilient, intuitive, (and god forbid I say without backlash) open-minded and nice people you could ever hope to encounter -Its pretty easy to get people to visit you because theres always an ulterior motive. you can also use the latter to keep guests entertained when youre actually too busy with your NYC work life, or even if you arent.. -Cheap fruit, flowers, happy hours, vintage clothing, spices, classes in things; free events, screenings, art openings, cultural experiences, music performances.. just be smart, savvy, and not at all a dbag and youll be fine -I dont own a car. I dont want a car. I dont need a car. I pay $70 a month to get wherever I need to go via subway (and the bus system rocks), and when in doubt or in need, I just take a cab which from extensive experience costs 1/3 of when in any other city -3:1 women to men. All Im saying New York, I love you.
