New Yorks Governor Cuomo has a bill on his desk that may be able to prevent similar shootings like the one that took the lives of two NYPD officers last weekend. In it, the Prisoners Mental Health Discharge Planning Bill requires prisons and officials to have a discharge plan in place that would set an appointment for the released inmate with a community program, ensure they had enough medication to last until the appointment, and adds parole officers to the list of people that can refer someone with mental illness for a hospital evaluation.
