New bird in Swallows aviary 2014-07-03 KEVIN Omondis transfer to Moroka Swallows is now a done deal after the move was shrouded in some controversy in east Africa, according to the clubs bossi Leon Prins. The Kenyan international, who can play as a winger or in a more central role, signed a two-year contract with the Birds last week, though he has yet to arrive in the country. And reports in Kenya suggested that his previous club, top side Gor Mahia, would block the move as they believe they are due for a development fee for the 23-year-old, and as he was on loan with them from the FISA Academy and hold his clearance. Omondi had been on loan at Gor Mahia since 2009. However, there are still negotiations over the exact amount that Gor Mahia will be paid from the reported R500000 Swallows agreed with FISA Academy for Omondis signature, but a deal is said to be close. Prins told Sowetan he expected the player to join up with Swallows soon, and that he will be an exciting addition to their squad. Omondi had been set for trials at Ajax Cape Town at the end of last season but was whisked to the Birds instead. Swallows have already confirmed the signing of Lucky Baloyi and Philani Cele on loan from Kaizer Chiefs as part of the deal that saw left-back Levy Mokgothu move in the opposite direction. The club is also set to hold trials for Senegalese defender Pierre Coly, who currently plays for Enugu Rangers in Nigeria, as well as former Bloemfontein Celtic striker Rodreck Mutuma, who has most recently been playing in his homeland Zimbabwe with Dynamos. Also training with the team is junior international striker Thabani Mthembu, who was released by Platinum Stars at the end of last season after two campaigns with the club.
