New favorite detective show: Death in Paradise. Carole will watch - TopicsExpress

New favorite detective show: Death in Paradise. Carole will watch just about any mystery, but Im picky. But Im hear to say that Death in Paradise is my cup of tea. In this show developed by both British and French producers, we observe a British detective, Richard Poole (Ben Miller) assigned to investigate a murder on the paradise island of Saint-Marie in the Caribbean. However .... when he finds the murderer in episode one, he is forced to stay on permanent assignment (or at least until further notice) as the chief inspector on the island, solving murders which just keep happening. We have here a reluctant, grouchy, hot weather & beach-hating detective who misses England and longs for London life, fog and all. Oh, If he can just get back! ... But alas, he seems to be stuck. So meanwhile he keeps his mind off his problems by working crossword puzzles, trying to avoid a gecko who seems to want to be his pet, and by trying not to get involved with his team of investigators on the island. This includes Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey, an island native in whom we find gradual hints of romance with her quite refined chief inspector boss. The show is clever and humerous but at the center of each episode is a baffling mystery that only Detective Poole can ultimately solve. He is a bulldog for sorting out all confounding details until he announces the murderer at the end, always surrounded by the other suspects in the same room, like in Agatha Christy novels. Amazon Prime is running it but I see there are also episodes available on YouTube. Im alerted that there is a major plot twist in Season 3 that catches viewers quite offguard. Carole and I are bracing for it. See what you think as you view Episode One:
