CHICAGO (September 4, 2014)—1871 announced today the official launch of the Seventh Annual Momentum Awards Dinner, which will take place on October 9th, 2014 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Chicago. The Momentum Awards Dinner is produced by the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center for the benefit of 1871, and is Chicago’s biggest celebration of the past, present, and future of entrepreneurship in Chicago. “In its first two years, 1871 has graduated 37 alumni companies, created 400 new jobs, and raised over $36 million in capital,” said 1871 CEO Howard A Tullman. “This fall we will complete construction on our latest expansion, which will see our facility grow to 75,000 square feet of pure innovation. The Momentum Awards Dinner is the event for entrepreneurship in Chicago and this year’s event will be better than ever.” Support of the Momentum Awards Dinner directly funds the programming and staffing of 1871. This year, 1871 is particularly focused on furthering its mission to foster diversity throughout the Chicago technology economy. Funding from the Momentum Awards Dinner will also support 1871 efforts that specifically foster opportunities for women, minority, and veteran-owned technology companies, and will also support growing efforts in the education technology space. “Chicago is an international leader in technological innovation and entrepreneurship, and 1871 and the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center are the central driving forces for these industries in the city,” said Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center Chairman Jim O’Connor, Jr. “As the largest and most successful advocates for startups in Chicago, 1871 and the CEC are able to create substantial improvements in the city’s entrepreneurial community. The Momentum Awards Dinner not only gives us a chance to celebrate Chicago’s leadership, but also enables our continued efforts to foster innovation and prosperity throughout Chicago.” As is tradition with the Momentum Awards Dinner, the hosts will crown the year’s Momentum Award winner. Gordon Segal, Carole Segal and Motorola Mobility were chosen for this year’s awards because of their continuing efforts to support Chicago’s entrepreneurs and startups. “The Momentum Awards Dinner honors the leaders in Chicago business and entrepreneurship,” said Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center Treasurer and Momentum Awards Dinner co-chair Laura Ferris Anderson. “Entrepreneurship plays a critical role in fostering job growth and economic opportunity, and those who support the city’s entrepreneurial community are key contributors to Chicago’s economic vitality.
