New golden age for real indie productions? Indie films really - TopicsExpress

New golden age for real indie productions? Indie films really took off in the 90s thanks to Tarantino and Rodriguez and others, but that was back when they had to shoot on film and needed real editing suites and such. The pressure to move up to big-time funding was great because that traditional film-based stuff is expensive. Many of the self-funded auteurs of those years took corporate money and started producing things like . . . well . . . Spy Kids. Or what was that thing that Richard Linklater did? You remember? Nahh. Now, beautiful films can be shot and edited digitally, sometimes even with free software. Maybe were at the dawn of a new age of true independent DIY production and even distribution. Not as much money in it for the producers, but really, that might be a good thing. Be creative with other creative people and take chances youd never take with millions of dollars in what amounts to mob money.
