New laptop. Windows 8. Touchscreen. My question: why? To move - TopicsExpress

New laptop. Windows 8. Touchscreen. My question: why? To move a window, I drag the title bar with the mouse or touchpad, as I have been doing for 20 years. To be modern I have to reach out and smudge the screen? WTF, Microsoft? Is there one thing I can do with the coloured tiles that I cant do in desktop mode? (Other than your inexplicable and non-optional removal of the start button which Im used to?) Some tiles are animated with news and sports scores: big f***in deal, we got bored with push technology in the Windows 98 era. This is cosmetics, not improvement. Plus, Im having mysterious difficulty in Bing/IE navigating to competing sites like gmail, and suspect something nefarious is going on. Also, putting the shutdown button close to the install updates and restart got me installing 1 of 82 updates, dont unplug while I was trying to leave a bridge game. 20 minutes later it was 11:25 pm and on #7. I unplugged. An are you sure would have been nice. Special shoutout to BridgeMates software, which runs the install program but carefully hides the fact that Windows 8 requires the BridgeMate server driver to be installed manually. This is 2014; you couldnt write a few lines of code in the installer to check the OS and explicitly warn us of this little requirement? By the time I solved it by poring through the web site we were in round four with travellers. Grrrr!
