New publication offers book, TV, movie reviews from Catholic perspective By Catholic News Service —NASHVILLE, TN A new publication based in Nashville is offering reviews of books, movies, TV shows, and music from a Catholic perspective. New Catholic Books & Media, to be distributed quarterly through churches and religious bookstores, is designed to get the word out about good, inspirational media so people can know what is out there, said Christopher Fenoglio, CEO and editor-in-chief. Fenoglio, a member of St. Henry Parish in Nashville, also writes the Reel Life Journeys media column in the Tennessee Register, Nashvilles diocesan newspaper, which took first place as best column in culture, the arts, and leisure in the Catholic Press Associations 2010 newspaper competition. I have been writing about films, faith, and family for five years and I noticed an extraordinary amount of publicity in the secular press for films judged morally-offensive by Catholic News Service reviewers, Fenoglio said. At the same time, I noticed that many new and inspirational books released by Catholic book publishers garnered little attention in the media. Through the new publication, he said he hopes that more Catholics will be exposed to uplifting, inspirational media that can enrich their lives. Fifty copies of the publication will be sent free to any US church, Catholic or not, that signs up at newcatholicbooks. Bookstores can sign up for a free single subscription or order in bulk at $25 for 50 copies or $90 for 400 copies. Individual subscriptions are expected to be available eventually, but pricing has not been set. About 25,000 issues of the 12-page debut issue of New Catholic Books & Media were distributed in October to nearly 500 Catholic churches and bookstores around the country, he said. Some of the book, movie, and TV reviews will come from CNS through a licensing agreement, while Fenoglio and other writers will provide additional content. ©CNS
