New rule. Unless youre running a GoFundMe campaign to pay your mortgage bill, dont brag about how poor you are. Thats putting your attention in the wrong place. Id rather hear that despite the bubble in the cash flow pipeline, youre finding ways to hang in there. Thats inspiring. Its also a more productive focus. Trust me, I know what its like to worry about the mortgage payment or even wonder if its possible to buy enough groceries for the week with not too much money in the pocket. But I have a personal rule -- other people dont want to hear it. Mostly, it annoys them. And on FB -- talking about how you cant afford a this or a that is almost always a distraction from the original point of the thread. Why would you want to call that kind of attention to yourself? The ONLY reason to talk about how tight your financial situation might be, is to advocate for a raise in the minimum wage. Thats the rising tide that will lift all boats. As in: I could sell a lot more books if people were making enough money to buy them. We need to raise the minimum wage.
