"New test results that the Texas Education Agency released Friday - TopicsExpress

"New test results that the Texas Education Agency released Friday indicated that 10 percent of fifth-graders failed in math and 11 percent failed the reading section. Among eighth-graders, 11 percent failed in math and 9 percent failed reading. Although students in other grades also took the STAAR, the results for fifth- and eighth-graders carry high stakes. State law requires students in those two grades to pass the math and reading sections to be promoted. An estimated 72,000 students in the two grades will be retained in the new school year unless their parents, teacher and principal agree to overlook the test scores."
