New thread on ALDI Here are my top ten tips for anyone who is interested in giving it a try to see how much they could save: 1) Try to avoid “peak” times as they tend to have small car parks 2) You will need a pound coin or token for a trolley 3) They charge 3p for a carrier bag, but they also sell Bags for Life (I always forget to re-use my BFLs) 4) Go with an open mind 5) It is easier to stick to the items on your shopping list because they don’t have loads of tempting “offers” like Tesco do (where you have to buy more than you need to “save” and quite often it is NOT more economical if you really add up) 6) Or you can just cruise the aisles and pick up whatever looks good, and STILL save £££’s 7) The checkout assistants are like Grease Lightning and there isn’t a lot of space to put your things once they’ve been scanned – so if you’re not adept at packing your bags swiftly, you can pile everything back into your trolley and they have a special “packing area” by the exit. 8) They don’t accept Credit cards (only Debit cards or cash) 9) Most of the “brands” have funny names but look very similar to “normal” brands and there is little difference BUT don’t be tempted to try the “luxury” cat food which looks a lot like Sheba – my cat hated it. This is NOT the same thing as Sheba. 10) They DO stock a wide range of fruit and veg (ie it’s not just apples, oranges and bananas you can get mangoes, fresh whole pineapple, kiwi fruit etc) BUT don’t expect to find “purple sprouting broccoli” it’s normal broccoli or nothing. If you want a specialist item go to an Asian mini-market or a big chain.
