New wine in old bottles. Written By: William Wimbs Matt 9:17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved. The scripture above teaches us that new wine must be put into new bottles, Matthew 9:16 teaches the same lesson No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment,. The lesson to be learned is that old and new does not mix, it is like trying to mix apples and oranges, and you cannot do it. A much better comparison is Law and Grace, you cannot mix them, another contrast is prophecy and mystery they are opposites of one another. And again, there is the gospel of the Kingdom of God as opposed to the gospel of the Grace of God they do not mingle. The gospel of the circumcision and the gospel of the uncircumcision they are different. Things that are different are not the same. When we mix things that are different in Gods word we never come away with the right results and understanding, and that is how it is when we try to mix law and grace we corrupt them both. The scriptures make it very clear that there are things that must be kept separate for if mixed or joined together will cause damage that is hard to repair and in some cases may never be repaired. The dispensation of the Law and the dispensation of the Grace of God are one of these cases, they must be kept separate when studying the Bible, because if we try to mix them then we damage them both.- Rom 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. This verse says let grace be grace and work be work, but never grace and work, in the dispensation of grace there is no such combination as grace and works. It seems that the majority of people that call themselves Christians want to mingle grace and works and ignore the plain teaching of -Eph 2:8,9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. People that do contrary to this scripture are not ignorant nor are they deceived, they just plain refuse to accept what God has said, because this is a very easy verse to understand. It simply means you can do nothing to save yourself; it is all by the grace of God, plus nothing. To try and mix grace and works is like putting new wine in old bottles you destroy both, for God will not accept them mixed - Rom 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Gal 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. Most people think they have to approach God with their own righteousness, they say they dont but their actions tell a very different story-. Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. For else, why would they mix works with grace? I wonder how many realize they are telling God he doesnt know what he is talking about, when they mix grace and works.- Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. They do not seem to understand when they put themselves back under any part of the law; they give sin dominion over them anew, for sin only has dominion over those who are under the law not those that are under grace. The term not under the law, means all of the law, not just certain parts of it, as some would like to claim. The same is true with under grace means all that grace involves. People who claim to follow Jesus are just fooling themselves; there is not a soul on this earth that has ever followed Jesus Christ. Jesus is unique in every way, one of a kind. There are those that say they are walking in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, all I have to say is you are truly deceived, you have not taken one-step in his footsteps. Folks to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ are not walking in his footsteps. You have not even followed his teachings, who among you have sold his possessions and divided the proceeds to the poor-Matt. 19:21, or which of you have kept his words- John14:23, I dont mean, try to keep them, the command was never to try, but to keep his words, or who is it among you that loves his neighbor as himself -Matt.19:19. You are always talking about what you have done when really you havent done anything. You brag about what you are doing, oh, you give a little recognition to God, You are quick to let everyone know what God is doing in your lives because of your great works and deeds and fail to understand that God doesnt accept your works or deeds for righteousness. You dont have anything to brag about, everything you have is because of Gods mercy and grace.-Eph. 2:8. It amazes me that Jesus said he came to the Jews -Matt 15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And all these self righteous Christians will not accept it, they sound just like Peter when he tried to rebuke Jesus, when Jesus revealed to the disciples that he would go into Jerusalem and be killed.- Matt 16:22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. Peter didnt believe Jesus knew what he was saying, so is the way with people today they only believe what they want to believe and not what the Bible says. They dont believe the Apostle John when he says he came to his own and his own received him not-John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. They still claim he came to the Gentiles, Jesus could not have disagreed with them more strongly, but still they dont believe him. It is evident that they dont believe the apostle Paul when he preached the gospel in-1Cor 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: They add a lot of things to what the apostle to the Gentile says, they add water baptism, repentance, confession of sins, keep the law, take communion, ask for forgiveness, and the Apostle Paul doesnt claim any of these things are required for salvation or to remain saved. They dont believe him and they go to the Old Testament and the four Gospels and Acts 1-8 to get their doctrine for the Church and teachings on how the Christian is to be saved today. I know they dont believe what Paul has taught, because if they did, they would be looking in his epistles Romans thru Philemon for their doctrine. But these are those that have turned to believe and preach another gospel, and Paul said let them be accursed-Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. My friends, Paul preached the gospel of the grace of God, any other gospel is another gospel, and you do not find the gospel of the grace of God in the Old Testament or in the four gospels and the first 8 chapters of Acts or in the Hebrew epistles (Hebrews to Revelations) these all are to the Jews. This gospel can only be found in Pauls writings. Nevertheless, if someone is going to be ignorant Paul writes in-1Cor 14:38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. This is Gods word on this subject. If you agree or disagree, that is your choice; you are the one who must speak for your soul. New wine must not be put into old bottles, except the bottles break and both are destroyed. May God bless all who reads this paper, and help them to understand what the Gospel is for the Church in this dispensation of Grace.
