New years resolution idea for everyone- How you start your morning has a large effect on your mood for the rest of the day. Watching the morning news often leads to increased feelings of depression, fear, and worry, and distress the rest of the day (Altheide, 1999). So instead of the news, try watching a TED talk during your morning routine or listening to one on your commute! TED talks are short videos of incredible talks given on a wide variety of subjects. They can be thoughtful, uplifting, informative, etc., but they are sure to get your wheels turning and leave you in a better mood. Ive been doing this for a while now, and I truly believe it has made me a better, more thoughtful person. What a calming, wonderful way to start the day, and you can spend the rest of the workday reflecting on the topic of that mornings talk. Im not saying you should have your head in the sand and never watch the news, but perhaps the evening news is a better option than starting your day with the negativity of morning news. Give it a try for a week at least! :) ted/
