#NewSouthWales #Weather #SevereWarning #NSW #CTCorp 10:25pm Update:~~DETAILED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for HEAVY RAINFALL For people in parts of the Sydney, Wollondilly/Wingecarribee and Greater Wollongong areas. Issued at 10:25 pm Thursday, 4 December 2014. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 10:25 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Campbelltown, Liverpool, Dapto and the Muswellbrook district. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to southeast. They are forecast to affect Wollongong, Bankstown and Pt Kembla by 10:40 pm and Sutherland, Bulli and Helensburgh by 10:55 pm. Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding is likely. Over the past 2 hours up until 10:30pm thunderstorms have been accompanied by bursts of heavy rainfall. Typical totals have been 15mm in 10mins. In any storms that become slow moving the rainfall totals will be higher. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Dont walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 10:55 pm. A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Australian Capital Territory and parts of the South Coast, North West Slopes and Plains, Riverina, Lower Western, Upper Western and Snowy Mountains districts. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 218. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
