Newport Station, a former railroad ticket station, sits on Main Street in Newport. It was reportedly purchased for one dollar, relocated here and opened as a craft shop, along with the caboose. These have since closed up. This station was built in 1895 on Maple Avenue in Cedarville. It was one of the stops for Central Railroad of New Jersey, which ran between Port Norris and Bridgeton. The line was also used to ship oysters from Bivalve, a nearby oyster community.
