News Dispatch with Father Omolo Beste WHY KURIA WON’T BE JAILED FOR HATE SPEECH FRIDAY, JANUARY 16, 2015 Mishale writes on Moses Kuria’s hate speech messages: “Something could be disturbing this man called Kuria. Why is he always too harsh in his comments? A proper leader should be very careful with his words. Kuria is supposed to be an honourable member of parliament, but his words say the opposite.” Inset (left Moses Kuria centre) Moi University student Alan Wadi Okengo, alias Lieutenant Wadi (right) - He was charged with hate speech and insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta. He pleaded guilty and was jailed for two years Godfrey writes: “Who is Kuria representing in parliament? and what do they gain from Kurias childish posts? how does his posts help those affected by jiggers in Gatundu? how do the comments he makes help to prevent child rapes and murders happening in Kiambu?” Justus Nathan writes: “Moses Kuria is an uncultured man who suddenly finds himself in the midst of too much attention. These are the xenophobic people who, given a high position of influence and leadership, could lead a Boko Haram style insurgency against perceived enemies and tear this nation apart Yusuf S. Ghazzali writes: “Since this serial hate speaker is a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyattas Jubilee government, the President would do well to publicly condemn Kurias hate sentiments. Remaining silent may send the wrong message that such behaviour is tolerated....” Paulo wa Muthoni writes: “If there is anything gatundu residents suffer from is this MP, He is educated yet his speech lacks maturity and his arguments are outdated. Mr MP you dont have to abuse anyone or any community or tribe to show you are a fighter. Cool it down dude, fighters are known even from far. Kenya is one and all the tribes deserve to be served and recognised. I wish for the day Kenya will be united despite the tribal differences, we are united through the skin colour as africans hence, it start from me and you. Apologies are not enough umetuzoea, just the other day ulikuwa kotini? i wish the court could Jail him for ones so that other know Kenyans are serious about this issue of tribal and ethnicity related speech and selection. Afungwe hatakama ni 1 month apate adabu. this is bad.” Abunuas writes: “I had said it before that Kenyans will never learn the negative implications of negative ethnicity until one day they get into a proper civil war like it happened in Uganda or Rwanda. After that Kenyans will love and embrace each other like brothers and sisters. No one will ever talk like this again, no one will ever refer to the other as a Luo, Kikuyu, Kisii, Luyha.......bla....bla...bla. We will see each other as Kenyans. I pray Lord that .........that day may one day come. I know it will be painful and idiotic but it will help restore a country divided by hate and tribal pride.” Kenyans are wondering whether hate speech will ever end in Kenya because when Moses Kuria was vying for Gatundu South and was accused of hate speech, meaning that he could not vie, Deputy President William Ruto went to Gatundu to campaign for him. Here is what blogger Robert Alai posted on Ruto’s campaign tour to Gatundu: I am surprised that Deputy President William Ruto went to Gatundu to campaign for Moses Kuria. First, Moses Kuria has called for the massacre of Luos and Muslims in his posts. When Moi University student Alan Wadi Okengo, alias Lieutenant Wadi was accused of hate speech on the same social media Kuria used he was immediately charged and jailed for two years. Wadi’s “trial” was a farce, hastily done as it was without any legal representation for him. He was caught while attempting to sneak out of the country on foot at the Busia border post. This means there was a time when you wouldn’t be jailed for hate speech in Kenya when you matter in this government. That’s probably what Alan Wadi Okengo thought when he argued that people like Moses Kuria post hate speech on Facebook and not only let free, but still campaigned for. One thing is very obvious, that Jubilee government will never allow Moses Kuria jailed. You will quote me one day. This is not the first time people who matter in the government have been let free. In 2012 former Environment Minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere was set free on hate speech. All charges against him were dropped. Assistant Minister for Roads Wilfred Michage and lawmakers Fred Kapondi and Joshua Kutuny were arrested oover hate speech but their charges were also dropped. Here is some samples of hate speech on social media: I think its just a matter of time before Kenyans start violence against PERCEIVED terrorists, their sympathisers, their financiers and those issuing travel advisories without sharing intelligence. I am not sure I will not be one of those Kenyans. When you touch Gikomba the nerve centre of our economic enterprise, you really cross the line. Brace yourself. Choices have consequences The madness will not end till you take up arms to defend your motherland. We need guts, guns and God. This is not about Muhoro, Gichangi et all. Stop the blame game. Take up guns and defend your motherland, your mothers, your sisters and your daughters! I am sure of many things but am not clear whether ODM is working for Al Shabaab or Al Shabaab is working for ODM. Mine(emphasis) is a call to violence against terrorists and their sympathisers like yourself. You dont coordinate terrorist attacks from Boston and get away with it.Why arrest someone who is a dead man walking, politically speaking? Barely hours after he made a public apology for posting hate remarks on his Facebook page, Moses Kuria was at it again. He referred to Genesis 17:14 which says: “And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.” Fr Joachim Omolo Ouko, AJ Tel +254 7350 14559/+254 722 623 578 E-mail obolobeste@gmail Omolo_ouko@outlook Facebook-omolo beste Twitter-@8000accomole
