#News: Dr.Tedros holds talks with the President of KOICA Foreign Minister, Dr. Tedros Adhanom held talks with Mr. Young-Mok Kim, President of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) yesterday (August 19) who is on a visit to Ethiopia to look at KOICA projects. KOICA’s major activity in Ethiopia is centered on increasing Ethiopia’s industrial capacity through vocational training, but Mr. Kim, who visited a KOICA model village in Oromia Regional State said he hoped KOICA would expand its activities in rural development. Dr.Tedros said he appreciated the development cooperation between Korea and Ethiopia and expressed his hope that the historic ties between the two countries will strengthen through increased investment and cooperation. He noted that his visit to Korea earlier this year enabled him to appreciate the growing interest of big companies like SamSung in investing in Ethiopia. He said Ethiopia would highly appreciate KOICA’s assistance in encouraging Korean companies to come to Ethiopia and take advantage of its fast growing economy, large population, substantial market opportunities, an excellent air transport network throughout Africa, and a conducive investment regime with a wide array of incentives. Dr. Tedros particularly noted that Ethiopia offered huge opportunities to Korean investors interested in floriculture now there were direct flights between Ethiopian and Korea. Dr. Tedros also raised the issue of the Modjo-Awasa road project, being built by the support of the African Development Bank and the Korean EXIM Bank, noting the need to expedite the project. Mr. Young-Mok Kim reassured Dr. Tedros that he would discuss the matter with the management of the Korean Exim-bank. Dr. Tedros told Mr. Young-Mok-Kim that Ethiopia would highly appreciate the presence of President Park of South Korea at the forthcoming January Summit of the African Union as his presence would underline the growing ties between Africa and Korea.
