News: FIBA Asia Championship: Wang Zhizhi Rescues China Against Jordan In Classification Match Veteran center Wang Zhizhi fired 33 points, including the go-ahead three-point play, as China held off a spirited Jordan rally for a 79-76 win in their FIBA Asia Championship classification duel on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena. A day after getting knocked out in a 96-78 upset against Chinese Taipei, the dethroned champions found themselves in a dogfight against the Jordanians. Wang, who was left out of the initial lineup by coach Panagiotis Giannakis before being included on the eve of the tournament, dominated the match, missing just one of 13 shots all game. He assisted on a Yi Jianlian dunk that pushed the China advantage to nine points, 69-50, to cap a 13-4 run with just 3:44 left in the game. But Jordan came storming back with a 14-4 run, taking the lead with a Wesam Al-Sous three-pointer with a minute remaining in the game, 74-73. China went back to Wang after the timeout, and the Chinese NBA pioneer scored while getting fouled with 44 seconds left. He knocked in the bonus free throw, and China held on for a stop in the next possession against Jordan’s Jimmy Baxter. Yi, who finished with 18 points, made three of four free throws in the dying seconds to preserve the win for China, which will play for fifth place against the winner of the Kazakhstan-Qatar duel later in the day. Al-Sous led Jordan with 17 points on five three-pointers, while Baxter and Mohammad Hadrab added 13 apiece.
