News/Grant Letter 2013 Here at Mercy Ministries we bring restoration to men’s lives. Our target group is homeless men. This core group is often neglected in the area of which we serve them. Sure there are shelters out there, meals, clothing rooms, and reduced medical. But that is usually the end of it. It is our conviction that if we are able to bring restoration to the men, they in turn, will be able to provide for, and protect the women and children in America. We take the homeless into our ministry home and provide for them a six month faith based structured environment of Christ centered Discipleship training. These men are often spiritually, mentally, and physically bankrupt. It is our philosophy and observation that as we focus primarily upon the spiritual area, the physical and emotional areas are significantly improved. Rebellion is a good example: Job 36:10 He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity. Job 36:11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. Job 36:12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge. The men leave here with life skills, and resources that they previously did not possess, or operate in. And complete restoration is well under way. In addition to our main house, where a more intense approach is put forth, we have transitional housing for men that have been with us for at least four months, and have demonstrated determined character toward restoration. In Transitional Housing, the men can stay for an additional year. These men are required to pay rent, work full time, or get enrolled in the G.E.D. program, or a vocational re-training program. As any like-minded ministry, we have fall-out. At least, the seed, God’s word, has been planted into their hearts, and if nothing else, one day, they will stand before God without excuse. It is our objective to speak the truth, in the spirit of love, unfeigned to these men, demonstratively. Obedience to God carries over, and effects every area of our lives. So this is our primary approach. However, we do not neglect the other areas of these men’s lives. Whatever their problem areas are, we address. Such as work ethics, social skills, hygiene, education, vocational training, and responsibility/accountability for ones own actions. Available upon request is a program calendar, which outlines a typical day for the men here at Mercy Ministries, also a break down of expenses for last year. Along with an open ended budget for this year and a projected expense budget for 2014. Because we target a core group that is often neglected, it is hard to secure financial backing. We struggle from month to month to make ends meet. None of our volunteers receive monetary reimbursement. Most all of our funding is from the private sector. Please, we urge you, if you can help, we solicit your involvement. If we do not fit your criteria for grant money, or donations perhaps you know of another source. Pass it on. Mercy Ministries is a registered 501c3 tax exempt ministry. Any monetary donation is a tax-write-off for your corporation, or house hold. To donate un-wanted vehicles is another way to help our ministry. We can clean up that old clunker, re-sell it, use it for our ministry needs, or, scrap it out. It must have a free and clear title. In September, 2013, we celebrate two years of operations here in Addy, Washington. Being completely transparent before you, the area of finances has been our greatest onset. We would like to set up a scholarship fund for our more serious candidates, and other incentive programs. We are a ways out from this vision. Just getting to Church seems to be a greater financial need. Projects and sustainability: Currently, we have livestock that help us with our meat needs, milk and cheese. We are assessing and pursuing the project of a milking parlor which is up to FDA standards, and approved. We then can sell raw milk, and aged cheese to the public, which will help us with our sustainability. We have poultry, which is another source of meat, and eggs. Of course, wintering our flock is another need. We have thirty goats, and ten sheep. We still need hay for the winter. Another way to raise funds for the ministry is by performing odd jobs within the community. Also, we can provide some skilled labor. A Testimonial Six months ago I was a boy with a horrible meth addiction. I cared for nobody but myself, and getting my next high. I used meth to suppress my emotional activity, such as anger, depression, and despair because of the loss of my father at a very young age. I had a hole in my heart that couldn’t be filled, until God the Father healed it. I am here at Mercy Ministries to build and strengthen my relationship with the LORD so that I may share God’s love with people who struggle with hopelessness. Because of God’s mercy and grace, I am no longer a boy struggling with an addiction, but “I am a man of God”! Kevin Simmons
