#News : Premier underlines Ethiopia’s commitment to combat terrorism Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn pledged on Friday (July 18) that the Government of Ethiopia would strengthen efforts to put an end to any terrorist network as part of its aim of advancing the cause of peace, stability and prosperity for the country. In a press conference with local media, the Prime Minister emphasized that his Government would always remain committed to respond to the terrorist networks that emerged from Asmara and extended to other parts of the Horn of Africa. He said Ethiopia was strengthening coordination and collaboration with neighbouring countries in its fight against terrorism. The detention and extradition of Andargachew Tsige, Secretary General of Ginbot 7, he said, testified to Ethiopia’s sustained commitment and determination to deal with the terrorist network and it would expedite the objective of creating a peaceful, prosperous and stable country. The Prime Minister said that those who had any connection with terrorist groups would not be tolerated, regardless of who they were or what their profession was. Terrorism, he added, was an international crime. He emphasized that the fight against terrorism had no connection with the 2015 election, but he said that the Government would ensure that the election would be peaceful, fair, democratic and credible. The Prime Minister said that Ethiopia stood ready to continue the dialogue with Egypt and Sudan over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in a new spirit marked by win-win results and shared benefits. He said that Ethiopia, upholding the principle of equitable and fair utilization of the water resources of the Nile, would deepen its engagement and partnership with Egypt and Sudan to advance their common development. The Prime Minister said that Ethiopia’s involvement in international peacekeeping efforts meant that the international community recognized Ethiopia as a staunch force for peace and stability. He said Ethiopia was becoming a key enabler in enhancing the role and weight of Africa in international affairs.
