News Release January 27, 2014: P2014000212 Seeking Witnesses to Motor Vehicle Accident: The South Windsor Police Department is seeking witnesses to a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Pleasant Valley Road near John Fitch Blvd. on Saturday, January 25th at about 2:30 p.m. A silver Chevy Malibu and silver Hyundai Sonata collided on Pleasant Valley Road between John Fitch Blvd and the driveway to an adjacent plaza. Anyone who witnessed the crash is requested to contact Off. Tina Mazzoccoli at 860-644-2551. Child Safety Seat Clinic by the South Windsor Police Department: On Friday, February 14, 2014 the South Windsor Police Department will be hosting a free child safety seat clinic at South Windsor Fire Headquarters (Company #1, 1175 Ellington Road). The event will be held from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. There is no cost to have your child’s car seat inspected, and no appointment is needed. The South Windsor Child Safety Seat Team follows the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) which is keeping children rear-facing from birth until two years old or to the height or weight limits of the convertible seat. Then, children should be forward-facing in a harnessed seat from two years old to eight years old up to the limits of the Child Restraint, then in a belt-positioning booster seat until the child can fit properly in a safety seat-belt, typically when the child is about eight to twelve years old. When using the vehicle’s safety seat belt always use the lap-shoulder belt for best protection. A final, best-practice recommendation is for all children under 13 years old to ride in the back seat. Please read and follow the instruction manual of your child’s safety seat and your vehicle to find the safest installation configuration.
