News for Today: •Single malt Scotch The Dalmore Selected by Daniel Boulud is being extended into national distribution. The 44%-abv malt developed in collaboration with the renowned chef retails around $200 a bottle, of which 1,000 are making their way to market. It’s also on offer for $50 a glass at each of Boulud’s six New York City restaurants, where it first appeared in a limited rollout this spring. The Dalmore is part of the Whyte & Mackay Americas portfolio. Craft Brewing and Distilling News: •Escondido, California-based Stone Brewing Co. has increased availability of its Double Bastard Ale and Southern Charred entries nationwide. First launched in 1998 as an “amped up” version of Stone Brewing’s Arrogant Bastard Ale, Double Bastard is a limited annual release that can be enjoyed fresh or aged for up to several years. The 11.2%-abv offering is currently available in 22-ounce bottles and on draft. Southern Charred, meanwhile, is one of three new entries in Stone’s experimental Quingenti Millitre Series, introduced alongside the Crime and Punishment labels. A barrel-aged version of Double Bastard, Southern Charred (12.6% abv) is offered in 500-ml. bottles and on draft. •Deschutes Brewery is set to enter the Ohio and Kentucky markets starting January 24. The Bend, Oregon-based brewer has partnered with Heidelberg Distributing Co.’s Rampant Brands division in Kentucky’s wet counties and Ohio, and will initially offer its Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Inversion IPA and Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale on draft and in six-packs in both markets. To support the launch, Deschutes will host tastings and other events from January 24-February 6 throughout Ohio and Kentucky’s Louisville area. Deschutes, which produces around 250,000 barrels of beer annually, has a current footprint of around 21 states.
