News reports as well as many friends suggest that the Kiss Of Love event didnt turn out to be so successful in Kochi (Kerala) as it was met with several protests since morning. Various protesters who happened to be members of the Hindu Shiv Sena, the Muslim Samastha Sunni Students Federation and other Religious Moral Police groups, blocked roads leading to Kochi’s Marine Drive, the venue for ‘Kiss of Love’, saying they would not let such “immoral activities” take place. >:( According to mainstream media reports, around 50 to 100 people have been arrested by the police in Kochi, their crimes being - Hugging & Kissing Publicly. But some friends suggest that the number of people arrested goes above 1000 (1K) which is indeed all the more depressing :( So much for Keralas Congressman CM Oommen Chandy and his Secular & Liberal credentials. Spineless jerk he is. >:( Seems the Kerala of Raja Ravi Varma is long dead. Its now the Kerala of prudes like K. J. Yesudas :( Anyway, the other Kiss of Love, held at IIT-Bombay this evening, has been a success. :D Some friends report that over 300 people gathered and many of them openly locked lips. The event was also supported by some faculty members of IIT-Bombay.
