News stories tonight about how Mr. Amazon dude is looking to launch a fleet of drones to replace book delivery drivers. So some say Amazon killed the local bookstore. Now they want to eliminate driving delivery jobs. Hey I know times change. My Dad used to drive a milk and bread truck. But it really wasnt so bad getting milk left on your front porch and fresh bread at your door. It was a middle class job. Hey, maybe we can order books to read about what the middle class used to look like and drones will deliver them to us. This guy has enough money to basically create or do anything he can imagine and he imagines eliminating jobs so people can get their stuff a day faster? I would use my imagination a bit differently. Just because a thing can be done, doesnt mean it should be done. I heard on the radio today that 50% of LAUSD students read at their grade level and many of our middle schools have closed libraries because there is no money to pay for librarians or staff to work in them with the kids. Meanwhile the Superintendent is overseeing a deal to get every student an iPad and has some business connection to Apple although he says hes letting the school board decide without any pressure from him. He just controls their funding and professional lives but no pressure at all! lol Locked up libraries! Books sitting in darkened rooms! If thats not the sign of a society in decay I dont know what is. I await the day when the robots become self aware, or we do. I hope we do first.
