Newtown Arts Company announces auditions for “Brigadoon” Auditions for Newtown Arts Company’s production of the classic musical “Brigadoon” by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe will take place Monday, October 7 and Wednesday, October 9 beginning with registration at 6 p.m. at Crossing Community Church, 80 Lower Silver Lake Road, Newtown, PA 18940-3429. Director Mary Liz Ivins and Music Director Sue den Outer will be on hand, along with Choreographer Joyce Rubinsohn. Those auditioning should bring a resume and headshot, and be prepared to sing a song from “Brigadoon” or something of a similar genre. Piano accompaniment will be provided. No CDs accepted and a cappella is discouraged. The auditions may include cold readings from the script and demonstration of movement and dance skills. Among the main characters needed are: Tommy Albright, a well-to-do New Yorker: Jeff Douglas, Tommy’s friend; Andrew MacLaren, father to Fiona and Jean; Fiona MacLaren, Andrew’s older daughter; Jean MacLaren, Andrew’s younger daughter; Charlie Dalrymple, engaged to Jean; Meg Brokie, a young, flirtatious character; Archie Beaton, father to Harry; Harry Beaton, son of Archie; Maggie Anderson, fond of Harry; Angus MacGuffie, head of his clan; Mr. Lundie, Brigadoon’s schoolmaster; Ian MacGregor, head of his clan; Jane Ashton, young New York woman; Frank, a New York bartender. In addition to the characters mentioned a chorus of Brigadoon townspeople will be cast. All roles are open and age range for auditions is ages five years and above. “Brigadoon” will be presented December 5 through 11, 2013 (no Monday show) at the Newtown Theatre and is presented by special arrangement with Tams Witmark Music Library, Inc.
