As he stood straight while his citation was being read, one could feel the sense of fulfillment exuding from him over 20 metres away. “Yes, this is a great honour to me and Next 2 None; it is a stamp of recognition of our efforts to educate Nigerians of their rights. I am indeed happy,” he said shortly after the event even as he thanked the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Bem Angwe who he described as “an extra ordinary human being”. Chucky also known in Nollywood circles as ‘The Great Founder’ told the story of his life and his efforts geared towards building up a vision and mission that reflects the need to improve on the socio economic status quo; to adopt an expanded service delivery with programs for interventions; and above all, to target the specific groups of young men and women. As preparations are geared towards what no doubt will turn out to be one of the biggest movies shot in Nigeria, the producer, Next 2 None’s partner and financier, Chris Uziewe, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abuja based Oak Cliff Global Synergy Limited, has given reasons why his company got involved in the international movie project. “We (Oak Cliff Global Synergy Limited) decided to partner and invest in the oncoming movie for two reasons; the program that Next 2 None has is key to human rights and no society can lay claim to development when there is no human rights protection. Secondly, the ideology of the concept the support initiative has also encouraged us to enter into this partnership and I believe it is good for the image of our company as this is form part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR. We are an international company and this movie is an international movie so naturally, we should work together.” The chief executive officer revealed his company would be investing in the movie that would feature one big Hollywood star (names withheld for now) and all top Nollywood stars. “Yes, we are going to invest in movie, we are working on tying all loosed ends as I speak to you.” Also, Next 2 None has practically dragged Nollywood into the fight against human rights violations with ambassadorial appointments given to some major players in the sector recently by the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, recently in Abuja. Nollywood stars Zach Orji and screen goddess Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde including music star Zakky Azzay among others were all made Ambassadors by the commission as part of events marking the International Human Rights Day last month. The deal was facilitated by Next 2 None support initiative, an NGO that has been on ground against human trafficking for years. It was a visibly happy Zach Orji that said the appointment was another call to duty. “This is another call to duty to serve humanity, on another level, and I am proud to be involved in it. Nigerians need to know their rights; Africans need to know their rights, people the world over need to know their rights and when they are trampled upon. There is a lot of ignorance in the areas of human rights among the people, which is why I commend the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Bem Angwe, for the vibrancy, the awareness he has brought to the issue of human rights in recent times since he became Executive Secretary. Also, I thank President Goodluck Jonathan for giving the commission the express mandate to sensitize the populace on human rights, which is how a responsible president acts.” The Nollywood star said he was ready for the new responsibility. “Yes, I am ready, I am ready to be part of the process that will rid Nigeria of all forms of human rights abuses, this Ambassadorial appointment has really fired me up,” he concluded. Omotola on her part said she was also ready. She said advocating for the rights of others, has always been her calling. “I know the value of people; there are some fundamental things that can’t be taken away from people that are why I have always spoken out against injustices and other forms of human rights abuses.” Bruno Iwuoha, Nollywood actor and one of the people recognized by the commission said Nigeria has done well in the area of human rights so far. “If you embark on a journey, you do not rest until you get to your destination, it has not been easy, but we shall get there, we aNext 2 None ‘conscripts’ Nollywood into fight against human rights violation IN what seems an endorsement of his over five years of advocating for the rights of people, Mr. Ndukwe Sam Obu popularly called Chucky’s human rights NGO, Next 2 None, was honoured by the National Human Rights Commission at the last edition of the International Human Rights Day, held in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
