Next Saturday: All Your Heroes Under One Roof! On August 16th, 2014 at the Avila Community Center in Avila Beach, the Ocean Outfall Group and fellow conservation groups bring you the 3rd Annual installment of Thank You Whales, a celebration commemorating the Miracle of Avila, when whales showed up in pre-hunting numbers at the gates of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant just in time to bring the world’s attention to planned seismic testing by plant owner, Pacific Gas and Electric. Because of the appearance of whales in Avila Harbor on August 16th, 2012, the seismic testing was defeated. And so every year, we say, ‘Thank You’-to our real heroes, the whales! 3rd Annual Thank You Whales is Saturday, August 16th 10:30am – sunset. Join us at the Avila Community Center to hear from some of the world’s top whale advocates! info: oceanoutfallgroup/thank-you-whales.html Ocean Outfall Group presents: THANK YOU WHALES CELEBRATION 2014 3rd annual August 16th, Avila Community Center 191 San Miguel St. Avila Beach, California 9:30 am- 11:30 am...free outdoor Childrens Art and Humpback Whale Faire Templeton Elementary School Grade 2 Thank You Whales art entries on display, arts, crafts, mermaids, hawaiian shirt contest 10:30 am - 11:00 am...SEA STARS SPEAKERS PROGRAM including vegan lunch 27.00 per person Meet and greet with hostess/greeter former Morro Bay Councilwoman Betty Winholtz 11:00 am - 11:15 am...Welcoming remarks, Thanking of the Whales by OOG Director Joey Racano 11:15 am - 11:30 am...Master of Ceremonies Marcia Hanscomb, Boardmember of Los Angeles Sierra Club and Ocean Outfall Group 11:30 am - 12:00 noon...Howard Stephen Pines, author of The Whale Song Translation 12:00 noon - 12:30 pm...Lunch by Phils Catering, vegan wraps, turkey wraps, salads, fruit, beverages 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm...Linda Seeley and Jane Swanson, Mothers for Peace 41 Years of Making Waves 1:00 pm - 1:25 pm...Kurt Lieber, Ocean Defenders Alliance, Saving the seas from the Danger of Derelict Nets and Gear 1:25 pm - 2:00 pm...James Hines, Conservation Chair of Los Padres Sierra Club, Exxons expansion threat of the Harmony Oil Rig in Channel Islands National Park 2:00 pm - 2:20...Lyndia Leonard, Whale and Dolphin Watch, Petition updates, current status of Marine Mammals 2:20 pm - 2:45 pm...Afternoon Break-music-refreshments 2:45 pm - 3:15 pm...Zachary Smith, Natural Resources Defense Council- a presentation on Whales and Navy Sonar, and an updated status on the lawsuit to stop it 3:15 pm - 4:00 pm...KEYNOTE SPEAKER, Susan Hartland, Head of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in the United States, Whaling, The Faroes Island Grind and Operation Grindstop, the Gulf, and beyond Announce winners of silent auction, closing remarks Sunset - 8:30 pm...Evening Ceremony at Olde Port Beach Music by Panga, Sunset Prayer Ceremony by Fred Collins, Tribal Administrator, Northern Chumash Tribal Council, Sunset Blessings brother Michael J.
