Next time a Tibetan (or any of their well-meaning supporters) tells that you Tibet was a peaceful, Buddhist, compassionate country just mention the words: the 5th Dalai Lama. One only has to study a little bit about the reign of the 5th Dalai Lama, the cultural, political and religious domination by the Gelug lineage and its oppression, censorship, destruction and murder of Bon, Jonangpa, Kagyu and Nyingma lineages to realise this is, at best, a myth; at worst, an outright, piece of propaganda manufactured by those in power. One might even argue that the subsequent portrayal of the Dalai Lama as Chenrezig incarnate was a classic example of what Chomsky called Manufacturing Consent.
