Niche was recently graced with one of the best food critics in the Midwest, Phil Vettel. For those of you who don’t know him, he has been working for the Chicago Tribune as a food critic since 1989. He is also seen (without revealing his face) weekly on WGN-Ch. 9 and CLTV. Mr. Vettel has an acclaimed love of the old 302 West and therefore, holds Niche to high standards. With this being said he stated, “Today, restaurants as sophisticated and technically skilled as Niche are few and far between.” After obtaining our new “old” chef Chris Ayukawa and a significant dining room make over Mr. Vettel states, “Niche is back, and the burbs should be happy.” With new menu items popping up regularly we are as pleased as Mr. Vettel with the response. Likewise, as the dining room may have changed we believe our staff is still the best and Mr. Vettel agrees saying, the “servers look too young to be as well-informed and professional as they are, and theyre personable as well; this is an exceedingly well-run dining room.” Following a careful review of many different items on our menu, it is clear to see Mr. Vettel greatly enjoyed his meal. One of which being our lamb entrée where he claimed, “the rack of lamb offers beautifully pink, rich-flavored meat, which can stand up to the accompanying potato puree; aggressively smoked, these potatoes will grab you by the lapel.” And for those of you with a sweet tooth Mr. Vettel says, “I like the shot and a beer, a sticky cake with bourbon-caramel sauce and Moloko (a sweet stout by Three Floyds) ice cream, but the best sweet is the milkshake torte, a thick malted mousse over a thin chocolate-cookie crust, topped with root beer whipped cream.” If you haven’t tried these, or any of our other new dishes you really need to stop by and give them a try and be your own critic of the “New” Niche.
