Nicola Mills has nominated me to list ten books which having read, have stayed with me over time. Here are the books and the reason why: 1) Heidi by Spyri Johanna. My first ever hardback book bought for me on my 8th birthday by my cousin Margaret Kelly. I just loved the story and the illustrations. 2) Heidi Grows Up by Charles Tritten (I still have this book). Again bought for me by my cousin Margaret on my 9th birthday. I think the illustrations more so because I loved to draw - as Me Mam has said millions of times our Linda should have gone to art school :) 3) The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. Same reason as Nicola, I read it to her as a child of 2 or 3 and if I wanted to skip a page at bedtime I had no chance because altho she was too young to read she knew it off by heart and said No Mummy, you have missed a page :) 4) Watership Down by Richard Adams. Another book inspired by the film in the late 70s. Probably the first animated film I cried my eyes out to. 5) Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh. I watched the fantastic TV series in 1981 and was captivated. I have read this book quite a few times and the haunting music from that series takes me back all those years. Think I might still have my copy somewhere. 6)Shroud of a Nightingale by P D James. Early 80s and this was the first crime fiction Id read. I have been hooked on crime and P D James ever since. Ive read every book she has written. 7) The Citadel by A J Cronin published in 1937. My first secondhand book I bought from a olde worlde shop in Norfolk. Id seen a series in the 80s which was excellent. Id like to say it was a gritty Northern story, but it was actually set in Wales and starred a very young Ben Cross. 8) The Last Bus to Woodstock by Colin Dexter about a detective called Morse. Inspired by my love of crime fiction and the TV series. I could if I let myself, be a Morse anorak Haha! 9) Harry Potter and the Philosophys Stone by J K Rowling. I just loved it from about four or five pages into the book and have read all the HP books, seen the films and visited the Studios. I look forward to the day when Olly wants to start at the beginning. 10) Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Crime story that has a clever mix of fact and fiction set in beautiful Italy. Made me want to visit the place, so I did. Have enjoyed doing this. Took me back and brushed off a few cobwebs. Now where is my copy of Brideshead :) I nominate Stella Leathley, Jan Arundell and Mary Gilpin to do the same :)
