Nigel Don MSP quizzes Transport Minister Keith Brown on the safety of the A937 Following another appalling accident on the A937 Nigel Don MSP for Angus North and Mearns asked Transport Minister Keith Brown at Minsters Question time on Thursday whether the Government was able to help Angus and Aberdeenshire councils improve safety on the road. Nigel Don stated that he has recently written to Angus Council and Aberdeenshire Council to ask them what they are doing to improve safety on this extremely dangerous stretch. He went on to say: “The best brains need to be applied not only to the problem of the Laurencekirk junction, which I know the minister is working on, but to the stretch down to Hillside.” Whilst Transport Minister Keith Brown reiterated that the Scottish Government has no authority to suggest or make improvements to a road for which another roads authority is responsible he noted that “Nigel Don is quite right to say that we work closely with local authorities, not least on roads maintenance. If the local authorities or the regional transport partnership make such a request we will be more than happy to work with them on the issue.” In regard to the notorious A90 Junction Keith Brown also stated that: “we are taking forward a design proposal with the Northeast of Scotland Transport Partnership to see what the best possible solution for the A90 and access to Laurencekirk could be.” Laurencekirk AB30
