Nigeria: In the abundance of water, the people are thirsty................ Abavo mourns, as scores of her youths are feared dead off of the coast of Italy...................................... The people of Abavo were thrown into mourning yesterday, on receiving though, an unconfirmed tragic news of the death by drowning, of scores of their compatriots, mostly youths when the heavily overloaded boat conveying them from Libya to Italy where, according to sources, they were going to, in search of greener pastures that their citizenship of Nigeria denied them, sank just as they approached their final destination off of the Italian coast. According to unconfirmed reports, only four out of the huge numbers of prospective migrants on board of the ill-fated boat were rescued by the Italian coastguards. We have been making efforts since yesterday to get an account of what took place from one of the survivors from Abavo, to ascertain the exact number of Abavo citizens on board the boat or how we can lay our hands on the boats passengers manifest without much success, the closest being a brief session with a cousin to the Abavo survivor who told me that his cousin was in a far away camp being processed as a refugee, but that he was in good health and recovering from the near-death experience. We will provide further updates as they become available, but in the meantime, we urge Deltans, especially Abavians whose citizens left for Libya within the past one month or so, with the intention of sailing into Europe by sea, to place calls to them to ensure they were not involved in the regrettable accident.
