Nigeria Shouldn’t Be Importing Rice – The governor of Sokoto. State Aliyu Wamakko yesterday said Nigeria should not be importing rice from any country as the nation was blessed with abundant fertile land to grow it. He said this in Sokoto while receiving participants of Course 36 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru near Jos, led by a directing staff, Air Commodore Ademola Omitiju. Wamakko said there was abundant fertile land in the country that could ensure massive food production for consumption by the populace and export to foreign nations. He said that the country required productive public sector that would ensure an increased productivity in all government affairs. Wamakko expressed confidence that “if Nigerians will have the commitment and determination, the country will move forward in all aspects of human endeavour”. . Earlier, Omitiju commended the effort of the state government for putting in place policies and programmes aimed at improving the lots of the people. He commended the government for making adequate arrangements to ensure the success of the tour.
