Nigeria will be going to polls in about a months time. Jonathan - TopicsExpress

Nigeria will be going to polls in about a months time. Jonathan Goodluck (or is it Goodluck Jonathan?), the president of Nigeria is seeking to be re-elected for a second term. He is asking to be re-elected for a second term so that he can fight the Boko Haram... My point is, he has been president all these years and Boko Haram was there even before he came to power. Infact it has been reported that about 200 school girls have been abducted under his watch and his government has not done anything to save the missing children. So how is he going to fight Boko Haram now since he has not been able to in the past? This is a typical example of the African narrative. The scenario is not different even in Kenya. Politicians get to power on promises that will never be fulfilled. Oh, mkinichagua, nitawaletea maji, you know the chorus dont you? Oh hata hii sitima iko njiani itakuja... The laptop promise was just but an empty promise to school kids by Jubilee, and I can bet that it will be used prominently again in 2017 and blame it on tendering exercise (hehehe Emeka Mayaka, the word exercise finds its place here again!). Oh, sasa mkituchagua laptops hata ziko njiani zinakuja na meli kutoka China! Remember Kipipiri in the Moi days, where electricity poles were dropped on to be collected back after Kanu lost in the by-election? Yet we still fall in the same trap to elect the same leaders again and again, year in, year out.
