Nigeria’s Flying Eagles crash out of U20 World Cup Nigeria’s U20 team, the Flying Eagles, have crashed out of the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey after slumping to a 2-1 defeat in the hands of Uruguay in a round of 16 duel in Istanbul on Tuesday night. Playing with 10-men right from the closing stage of the first half after Abdulahi Aminu was shown a red card for a rash tackle, the Flying Eagles found themselves on the back foot as Nicholas Lopez scored the first goal for the South Americans after connecting to a free kick in the 65th minute. Nigeria responded well despite playing one-man less as Kayode Olarenwaju drove in a shot from 20-yard to put the six-time African champions back on level terms. Uruguay, however, got the last laugh as Nigeria conceded a late penalty and Lopez was on hand to convert it in the 83rd minute. The goal was his fourth of the competition. In another Round of 16 clash, host Turkey were also sent packing from the tournament as their opponent, France, showed no mercy defeating them 4-1 to join Uruguay in the quarter final.
