Night Malefic Ideas: The Sapman Wrapped in leafless vines, head constantly dripping wax and hands penetrated by thorny twigs, this being finds wanderers and approaches them. It speaks in quiet monotones, offering a buzzing wasps nest. If refused, the Sapman becomes a swarm of wasps, often stinging the wanderer to death but leaving unharmed any who did not directly refuse it. It then reforms, and offers the nest to any other wanderers it sees. It is known to kill those that simply run from it. If accepted, the Sapman gives its gift and graciously leaves. The wanderer develops an attachment to the nest, protecting it from outsiders. They begin to dream about wasps and strange forest beings, beckoning the wanderer to join them. Eventually they disappear, and are never seen again, leaving behind sappy footprints and all their belongings. A few know a third way, avoiding either accepting or declining. They excuse themselves, politely complementing the Sapman and saying they have some important things to do, so they simply cannot stay and chat. As long as they dont acknowledge the supposed gift and are very kind to the Sapman, it seems the beings are confused and do not pursue when the wanderer attempts to leave. Photo by Nikolay Tikomerov
