Nitpicking on someones grammar and/or spelling is a pretty snarky - TopicsExpress

Nitpicking on someones grammar and/or spelling is a pretty snarky practice IMHO. This group was created for Ottumwans and former Ottumwans to share ideas and opinions. This is not an online English course! People should not be humiliated by others pointing out that their grammar, spelling or improper use of a homophone (i.e. there instead of their, to instead of too.) occurred. The person could just be writing too fast, could be using a smartphone that automatically allowed the homophone error, or just wrote without scrutinizing their words or spelling. Big whoop, the proper intent was still conveyed! I do not know of a single person, no matter how educated they are, who has NEVER had an error in their usage of words in the English language. It is a human trait to make mistakes. However, blatantly pointing out these mistake in order to demean another member does not make that person look stupid. It DOES however make you look petty and smug. I do not condone anyones use of attacking others in this manner to belittle others in an attempt to silence them. Im sure my fellow administrators feel the same way. It is a form of personal attack whether it is made towards one person or a group of people. This kind of thing needs to stop! Personal attacks towards other members are not allowed in this group!!! In my book this is one of the worst in the category of personal attacks.
