No. 510 DUDLEY TYLER Signed for £25,000, a record at the time for a non-League player, largely on the strength of his performance against Hammers for Southern League Hereford United during their historic F.A. Cup run of 1971-72. His rise to stardom was even more remarkable, taking into account a hole in the heart operation while he was still a junior player. Made his Hammers debut in the opening fixture against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns which ended in a 0-0 draw on the 12th August 1972. Duds brief sojourn at the Boleyn was made memorable despite the shortness of his stay. His return to Edgar Street and his former club was sweetened when they celebrated their newly-won League status with a thrilling F.A. Cup victory over West Ham in 1973-74 (after a draw at Upton Park). After retiring from professional football, he joined non league Malvern Town, eventually becoming player-manager, followed by stints at Westfields and Pegasus Juniors in Hereford, both playing and managing.
