No BJP candidate in North Kashmir s Sopore Bharatiya Janata Party has not fielded any candidate from Sopore constituency in north Kashmir for the upcoming assembly elections. 24 candidates have filed their nominations from Sopore till Friday—the last day of filing of nominations for the constituency. These, among others, include Muhammad Ashraf Ganie of National Conference, Nazir Ahmad Naiko of Peoples Democratic Party and Abdur Rashid Dar of Congress. Ganaie had some days back urged the Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani to withdraw his poll boycott call, arguing “it could be a major setback for separatist leaders if BJP bags Sopore on the strength of migrant voters.” BJP had earlier said it was focusing on Sopore constituency apart from others.
