No Balls... Patrons will be aware of the bizarre case of Bearded Collie testicle-gate. The Kennel Club has a general presumption that male show dogs have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum. When this is not the case unscrupulous exhibitors have been known to cover up natures shortcomings. The unfortunate Beardie in question retained a testicle... so the breeder had a vet implant a falsie. Retained testis are a potential health risk, not least because they are much more prone to develop cancer. Hiding a retained testicle in this way shows blatant disregard for the dogs health... never mind the KC rules. What did the Kennel Club do when the dogs new owner brought this to their attenation? They wrote back stripping the dog of the few minor placings it had achieved in its show career. Wheres the lifetime ban for the lying, cheating, recklessly stupid breeder who had the operation preformed in full knowledge of the implications for the dogs long term health? Perhaps the BVA took matters more seriously. Did they strike off or even suspend the vet concerned... no. The vet received little more than a slapped wrist. There are plenty of obvious jokes in this story. The biggest of all is that neither the Kennel Club nor the BVA have shown any balls. Gossip Hound... not laughing
