No Church today... Here is a short Sermon. Lets make a Decision. Look at James 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. Let me say this in another way. An indecisive man is not capable of making good decisions. Ring a bell? All of face making decisons on a daily basis. Wouldnt it be great to have a sane system to make these with? It is characteristic of most of us to struggle with this process. It is sometimes very hard to know what direction to go and to know the will of God. Nevertheless; I am going to give you FIVE ways this day on how to come to some kind of direction in your life. I wish that I could say that I have this down and that I make perfect decisions every time..... NO,NO.... No. It is true that I do try my best to follow the Lords leading in my life but I like most of us fail at this. Now, how can we get better at our Decision making process? #1 Gather as much info as possible. I remember while Pastoring in Nebraska how that sometimes you do have to make snap decisions on the spot. A Deacon and myself went to an auction. We were looking for things that might help our Church facilities. Got there, and to our surprise, these folks were auctioning a Church Building. You guessed it, I bought it for around $800.00. That was a snap judgement..... Worked out great. Then we had to move it fifty miles and prepare a place forit. That took gathering as much info as we could. #2 Dont be to impulsive. Ever got succered into buying a car and the car turned out to be a lemon? Well I have. On impulse I bought a brand new Yugo auto.... Big mistake. It was a terrible car. I did not do my homework and paid the price. Lesson? Wait and think a little ( this is where a man needs a good womans intelect). #3 Rely on the advice of trusted friends and mentors. Again, a good wife goes a long way here. People who have talked the talk and walked the walk are good advice sourses. Ultimatly you have to make your own decisions but it does not hurt to get IMPUT from others. #4 Pray for Guidance. Throughout the six years of Judys illness, it was a common thing to Pray. GET THIS: Throughout 40+ years of Ministry, it has been COMMON place to Pray. Praying ought to be our second nature. All of us should get up in Prayer and go to bed in Prayer. You want real answers to decisions that need to be dealt with? PRAY. #5 Trust your Inner Man. This is one of the reasons the Spirit of God has been given to us. DIRECTION..... OH, if we could just listen. Romans 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. #6 Act. Do what needs to be done. Do not sit around to see what others will do ... ACT. Here is a tid bit of wisdom: If you want to make yourself crazy... Make No Decisions. If you want to remain somewhat in charge of your life.... Make Decisions. Here is one more INSIGHT. Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Note the word Counselor. What does this word tell you? I can make ALL my decisons without FEAR. Facing change? Got something going on that needs dealt with? ACT...You have a Counselor. Libraries and book stands are full of Mans Oponions. It would be wise of us all to seek the Counselors advice. Doc
