No Spring Break for the Unemployed. Perhaps Republicans think their own voters are immune from long-term unemployment. But from the time the recession started in 2007 through 2013, the biggest percentage increases in long-term unemployment have been among groups that surely include Republicans: people with college degrees or some college; people ages 35 to 44 or 55 to 64; and people in management, business, finance, administrative support, education and health services. The percentage increase in long-term unemployment has also been greater among whites than among blacks.
