No Unnecessary Travel Advised This communication is a “No Unnecessary Travel Advisory” for Thursday, March 12, 2014 from noon to 10:00 p.m. After conferencing with Wayne County officials; Supervisor Chairman James Hoffman, Highway Superintendent Kevin Rooney and Emergency Management Director George Bastedo last night and this morning, Sheriff Barry Virts recommends No Unnecessary Travel for today from noon through 10:00 p.m. High winds will pick up, blowing north to south, gusting to 30 plus miles an hour with heavy snowfall starting between 10:00 a.m. and noon and lasting through approximately 9:00 p.m. tonight. Snowfall is forecasted for 1” per hour, with a three to four hour period seeing 2” per hour somewhere in the midst of all of this. The weather forecast from Buffalo National Weather has emphasized visibility will be very limited by the high wind speed and projected snowfall. No Unnecessary Travel is defined as hazardous driving conditions exist and no unnecessary travel is recommended. This restriction is not mandatory and is left to the traveling public to decide their comfort zone on the roadways. However, if it is essential to travel, do so with caution in considering the changing weather conditions. Further information will be released as needed, as conditions progress and dictate. Visit us at our social media sites; Facebook page “Wayne County Sheriff’s Office” and two Twitter accounts; @SheriffVirts and @WayneCoSheriff. Also at the Emergency Management Office’s Facebook page “Wayne County Emergency Management”. Sincerely, Sheriff Barry Virts
