No amount of increased Minimum Support Price, subsidies of multiple hues and bonus above and over the MSP can be an unquestionable substitute to the technological up gradation, infrastructures like irrigation cold storage chains and quality power, and financial inclusion, for combating inflation & stagnant agricultural productivity. Few lines on vegetables market as they exist during 1st week of November. During the month of October price of ladies finger increased by 236%, 100% and 20% in Navi Mumbais Vasi wholesale market, in Bangaluru and in Delhis Azadpur mandi respectively. This steep rise is due to late onset of monsoon resulting in delayed sowing and subsequent harvesting by one month. Brinjal, cabbage and cauliflower are other largely consumed vegetables in every household. Therefore if the price of one begins to rise, so do the others. Organic vegetables are high in demand for export purposes. It also factors in driving prices of inorganic vegetables. We have exported 9,53,731tonnes worth $374 million during 2013 - 14, as compared with 7,68,627tonnes worth $279millon in the previous year. So our agricultural sector needs reform with huge investment for infrastructural overhauling. Freebies is not the answer.
