No coalition with you, Zanu PF tells ex-PM ZANU PF has rejected a call by former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai for new inter-party talks that could likely lead to another coalition government. Addressing supporters in Harare at the weekend, Tsvangirai said Zanu PF would soon be forced to reach out to him as it fails to right the country’s failing economy. Despite ruling out working with President Robert Mugabe and his party following last year’s elections, the MDC-T leader said his party’s programme was now to seek re-engagement with Zanu PF. “Our programme is very simple,” Tsvangirai said. “We are saying to Chatunga’s father (President Robert Mugabe) and Zanu PF ‘let us come together and have a national dialogue to find solutions to this national crisis’. “Let us get together as political parties, churches, student organisations everyone … let us get together and resolve the challenges facing the country.” However, Zanu PF spokesman Rugare Gumbo said the MDC-T leader should forget about returning to government through negotiations. “Tsvangirai’s proposal for another coalition government is rubbish and hogwash. They think they can come back through the back door and start enjoying the benefits of being in Government. That is not going to happen,” said Gumbo. He added that conditions which necessitated the 2009 coalition deal which made Tsvangirai Prime Minister no longer subsisted. “There is a huge difference between what happened in 2009 and 2013. This time Zanu PF managed to win majority in parliament, while President Mugabe got over 51 percent vote. “What he (Tsvangirai) is saying does not make sense, he is just grandstanding. No one is going to support him in the region and internationally. “Botswana wants him out, America, Australia, Britain, the EU among others have all attacked him for fanning violence in his party. “These countries might not support the Zanu PF Government, but they see light and future of this country in the hands of Zanu PF Government.” Gumbo dismissed Tsvangirai’s claim that Zanu PF was struggling with the economy. “You cannot judge a new government’s policies in about six months,” he said. “There are a lot of polices that we need to carry out. As Zanu PF, we have efficient policies and programmes and it is clear that the MDC-T has nothing. We have the ZimAsset that we are implementing and the results will be realised slowly.” newzimbabwe/news-14803-No+coalition+with+you,+Zanu+PF+tells+ex-PM/news.aspx
