No luck for Bud Youngsters in Finland Bud Racing Kawasaki Monster Energy youngsters Sulivan Jaulin and Brian Moreau Strubhart each suffered more than their fair share of misfortune in the European Motocross Championship racing in Finland. Jaulin entered the penultimate round of the EMX250 series as runner-up in the points standings, but a crash at the first turn of racing and collisions with other riders in race two severely restricted his scoring potential at the rugged sandy Hyvinkää track. He eventually finished nineteenth and fifteenth in the two gruelling motos and has been demoted to sixth place in the series prior to the final round next round. Now 48 points behind the series leader with a maximum of 50 points available he has only a slender mathematical chance of the title, but has made a great impact to come so close despite missing the opening round of the series; indeed his three moto victories from ten starts are more than any other rider in the series. The Finnish GP also hosted the European 85cc Motocross Championship finals, contested by youngsters who had qualified through regional competition throughout the earlier months of the summer. For Brian Strubhart Moreau, at the age of twelve one of the youngest riders in the competition, racing on a sandy Scandinavian track was a totally new experience but he started the weekend well by qualifying seventh against the sand experts of northern Europe. Sadly Brian got little opportunity to show his undoubted skills in racing as he was involved in a crash at the start of the opening moto when other riders crashed in his path and he was unable to avoid them; later in the lap another rider ran into his front wheel, forcing the youngster and his bike off the circuit into the trackside fencing. Two collisions with other riders also ruined his chances of a points-scoring finish in race two. Sulivan Jaulin: “ I will not really have good memories from Finland, even if it was going well on Saturday until the first corner in the first race. I wanted the holeshot and lost the front wheel in the first corner, then it took me too much time to start the engine and then I had to give everything just to come back into the points. I finished nineteenth. On Sunday morning I had a good feeling but my start was average; I pushed again and recovered to tenth, but I used so much energy on Saturday that in the last five minutes I had to surrender some positions in this race. It’s a shame as it will be now be very difficult to finish top three in the series, but I will continue to work in the sand to be stronger for the final round in Lommel, even if this track will be even more difficult for me.” Brian Moreau Strubhart: “ It was a tough weekend for me; for sure the results are not what I was expecting. I got seventh position in the timed practice period, which was not so bad but at the start of the first race there was a crash at the start and I couldn’t avoid the bikes on the ground. Then during the first lap a rider hit my front wheel and I crashed; the bike was in the trackside barrier and it took me more than one lap to get back in the race. In the second moto I crashed twice with other riders, then I struggled with the track as we’re not used to racing in such conditions. But it was a good experience for me.”
