No oil spill from listing cargo vessel off Palawan DOTC-PCG: No oil spill was reported from a grounded cargo vessel 400 yards east of Mataya Reef, Palawan last Sunday, 06 October. Reports revealed that the wooden-hulled ML Angelica Romasanta with 10 crew members onboard, ran aground at the said vicinity. The incident was reported to Coast Guard Station (CGS) Coron by a certain Reynaldo Burdoy of Barangay 6, Coron, Palawan. Immediately, the team together with Special Operations Group, MEPU and FSD41 departed Balinsasayaw, Palawan enroute the incident area and rendered necessary assistance. Upon arrival by 3:00AM, the team observed that the extraction and towing operations conducted by two motor boats failed due to low tide in the area. It was also observed that ML Angelica Romasanta was listing five degrees to starboard and a crack was found on its starboard side, approximately 10 inches wide and 15 inches long. The crew began to transfer the cargo to another motor boat to lighten the weight of ML Angelica Romasanta. Boat captain Fred Cullantes was advised to conduct thorough repair and file marine protest and secure certificate of seaworthiness from MARINA upon completion of repair activity. ML Angelica Romasanta, a cargo vessel with 68.13GT, is owned and operated by Allan Romasanta.
